This is pretty important, so might want to have a look about it and change passwords to things

That indeed seems worrisome, however if you change your passwords without them having updated that OpenSSL thing, wouldn't it be moot ? :o

Unfortunately, as a user there is not much you can do, except avoiding to use the services of any site that uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption (you recognize those normally by having https:// instead of http:// and requiring a login).
Besides that you can only monitor closely any sensible data you may have submitted to such sites (i.e. watch your credit card/bank account for transactions you didn't authorize, notify senders of bills you receive without ordering anything and so on).
Changing online passwords unfortunately won't help before the Site owners patch their SSL service.
I for my part informed the Site owners of sites where I do have an account, that this leak exists and that I am aware of it. I also informed them that I won't take responsibility for any abuse of my submitted data until they fix their service and that I reserve my right to put the blame for any abuse on them and/or cancel my account if they don't take steps to make their service secure again. Additionally I asked to be informed if and when their services are safe again so we could continue our business relations.
Note: Cancelling an account anywhere would not protect any submitted data but it would get you out of responsibility and prove that it can't have been you if the data is abused from this point on.
